When you lose a family member to domestic violence it puts you in the crosshairs of change. How you looked at something yesterday is different. The questions are overwhelming.
How could this have happened?
How could I have missed the signs?
What could I have done?
What can I do? I'm only one person.....
It is an overwhelming experience to see a parent bury their child.
To close the casket lid on a loved one knowing it will be the last time you see their face because of domestic abuse is something we hope we can help stop.
We are not out to make waves, but through our message we hope the ripples of change will help promote awareness and more importantly action on your part.
After the funeral of our sister in November, 2007 we sat down with a local reporter and gave the following interview. At that time, Darlene and I made the commitment that we would help raise awareness and ultimately help save one person.

Since November, 2007; our Koffee with Karen speaking events have left audiences motivated and inspired. Our events have taken us throughout British Columbia and Alberta.
In September, 2008 a 2 hour radio documentary with award winner Michelle Boden was aired on 630 CHED radio. The documentary featured Darlene and I talking about Karen's story and the need for hightened awareness for all victims of domestic abuse.
In February, 2009 we were featured on the Cristy Clark Radio Show on CKNW which aired throughout British Columbia.
Darlene and I have also met with Members of Parliament and MLA's to help promote a need for the politcal system to protect the victim.
We have also reached out to corporations for donations that will help shelters meet their basic needs so they can use their much needed funding on programs for children and counselling for victims. Unilever Canada has been a very generous corporate citizen in assisting us with this initiative. To see just two of many great examples of corporate generosity, click on the logos below.

To date, Never Give Up has helped raise approximately $120,000 through various fundraising events and corporate donations. We are humbled by the generousity of people and businesses who continue to offer their help and donations and we thank each of them.
We have achieved more than we expected; but there is still much to do and more people to reach.
Our voice is small, but just like a pebble in a still pond....the ripples continue to make the difference.
Darlene and I realize that we may never know if our voice; Karen's story, has saved someone. All we know is that if we don't speak out...who will?
